Supporting Security and Infrastructure in a High-Movement Food Distribution Environment

S. Katzman Produce operates within the Hunts Point Produce Market, a high-volume environment where people, goods, vehicles, and daily operations are constantly in motion.

NYSS supported the organization with a physical security and network infrastructure solution designed to improve system reliability, increase visibility across key areas, and support future technology deployment without bandwidth limitations.

The project included a 10 GIG network spanning multiple sections of the market, along with video security, cloud-managed switches, fiber infrastructure, and access control components.

The Environment

Food distribution environments require security systems and infrastructure that can keep up with constant movement. For S. Katzman Produce, the solution needed to support multiple operational zones, high-volume activity, and the ability to deploy additional technology without creating network strain.

High-Volume Operations

The facility supports daily movement of staff, vendors, goods, and vehicles.

Multiple Market Sections

The deployment spanned three sections and two rows of the Hunts Point Produce Market.

Infrastructure Demands

The client needed a network capable of supporting modern physical security technology.

Future Flexibility

The system was designed to allow future technology deployment without bandwidth limitations.

The Challenge

S. Katzman Produce wanted to implement more powerful technology across its operation, but the existing network infrastructure could not reliably support the systems they needed.

The challenge was not just adding cameras or access control readers. The project required a stronger infrastructure foundation that could support video security, access control, cloud-managed devices, and future technology growth.

Key Considerations

  • Supporting technology across multiple sections of the market
  • Building a network capable of handling modern security demands
  • Improving visibility across operational areas
  • Supporting access control across key entry points
  • Reducing limitations caused by insufficient bandwidth
  • Designing for future technology expansion

NYSS Scope of Work

NYSS designed and deployed a solution that strengthened the client’s infrastructure while supporting physical security needs across the facility.

System Design & Planning

NYSS evaluated the facility, operational needs, and existing limitations to design a system that could support both current requirements and future technology growth.

Network Infrastructure

NYSS designed and deployed a 10 GIG network spanning three sections of the Hunts Point Produce Market, creating a stronger foundation for connected security technology.

Fiber Deployment

The project included approximately 4,000 meters of 10 GIG fiber to support reliable connectivity across the environment.

Video Security

NYSS installed and managed approximately 350 Avigilon cameras across the facility to support visibility and incident review.

Cloud-Managed Switching

The deployment included 17 cloud-managed switches to support connected systems and centralized infrastructure management.

Access Control

NYSS installed and managed approximately 20 Acre access control readers to support controlled access across key areas.

Ongoing Management

NYSS continued managing and supporting the deployed systems to help maintain performance over time.

Technology Used

NYSS works with trusted technology partners to design systems that fit each client’s environment, infrastructure, and long-term operational needs.

For S. Katzman Produce, the project included video security, access control, switching, and fiber infrastructure designed to support a high-volume commercial environment.

Avigilon

Avigilon video security technology was used to support visibility across key areas of the facility and provide a scalable foundation for incident review and operational awareness.

Acre

Acre access control technology was used to support controlled entry across key areas of the environment.

NET

Cloud-Managed Switches

Cloud-managed switches helped support connected infrastructure and more efficient system management across the deployment.

10G

10 GIG Fiber Infrastructure

The fiber deployment provided the network backbone needed to support high-performance security technology across multiple market sections.

Project Insight

“Katzman was looking to implement more powerful technology, but they needed the network infrastructure to support it. NYSS designed and deployed a 10 GIG network spanning three sections of the Hunts Point Produce Market, giving them the freedom to deploy the technology they needed without bandwidth limitations.”
Greg Keeling NYSS

Operational Value

The completed project helped S. Katzman Produce strengthen the infrastructure behind its physical security systems while supporting visibility, access control, and future technology growth.

Stronger Infrastructure

The 10 GIG network and fiber deployment created a more reliable foundation for connected security systems.

Improved Visibility

The Avigilon video security deployment supported visibility across key areas of the market environment.

Controlled Access

Acre access control readers helped support controlled entry across important access points.

Future Flexibility

The upgraded infrastructure gave S. Katzman Produce more freedom to deploy additional technology without bandwidth limitations.
